The director of the Institute for Women in the Region of Murcia (iMRM), Teresa Moreno, accompanied by the councilman of the City of Catagena Women, Rosario Montero, expressed its strongest condemnation of the recent cases of domestic violence recorded in Spain, after a minute's silence as a mark of revulsion at the seven women killed during the month of April.
The act of condemnation was joined by the hundreds of women participating in the First Conference of 'Women, Health and Quality of Life', organized by the city of Cartagena, to inform the female population on the diseases that particularly affect women and as treatments and preventive measures to avoid them.
IMRM director stressed the importance of addressing these issues, "not only because of the important consequences that cause the quality of life of women, but because in some way contribute to the perpetuation of unequal gender situations."
"We know from numerous studies conducted in our country that women achieve poorer health outcomes than men, despite having a longer life expectancy," said Moreno, for whom this data can be motivated "by biological differences but also social" .
Moreno highlighted the activities carried out by the regional government in health from a gender perspective, "thanks to joint efforts and collaboration of different departments of the ministries of Health and Social Policy, Women and Migration."
The conference, scheduled for today and tomorrow, is expected to address issues that directly affect the health of women, including fibromyalgia, cervical cancer and breast cancer, eating disorders, self-esteem and changes in maturity, among others.
