The City of Cartagena has a clear its commitment to the promotion of cycling in the municipality, a mobility project which will result in a benefit for the environment and provide healthy lifestyles to citizens, as noted by Councilman Urban Planning and Sustainable Development, Joaquín Segado.
Within this commitment is the construction of bike lanes that building works are underway for the renovation of roads and city streets.
In this sense Segado pointed out that there are already two rings in operation, the first of which covers the center (Plaza Bastarreche, Cuesta del Batel, Plaza Héroes de Cavite and Real Street) and a second ring of the Eixample (Angel Bruna Jorge Juan Round City of Union Avenue and Murcia).
Throughout 2010 the goal is to continue increasing the miles of bike lanes, adding project being in the street Luis Calandre the central ring, and the future Greenway Barrio Peral, hence the roundabout and The Tejeras Cartagena road to La Union, within the ring of the Eixample.
With all this, we have about 30 miles of bike lanes built, pointed out the mayor.
Moreover, this was also transferred to the districts, is expected to be developing a project in Pozo Estrecho for joining the Institute in the village by bicycle lane.
BIKE AUTO LOAN
Another pole for action to promote the use of bicycles as a mobility factor is the bicycle hire service Bicity, which is automated and will be operational soon with a total of 70 bikes with the corporate image characterized loan system and provided with a front anchor point and automatic identification.
The service consists of the Bicycle Parking Areas (ADA's), which in turn each have a System Access Terminal (TAS) and one or more parking spots (PAB's).
The first three areas are already installed on the streets of Guimbarda Wssell (Municipal Sports Pavilion), Paseo de Alfonso XIII (Youth Resource Center) and Paseo de Alfonso XII (Oficina Municipal de Turismo del Puerto).
Currently they are prepared to work and failing to come out to contest the maintenance contract.
Is planned to expand the number of loan points to the location of two new ADA, one at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (campus of the Wall), and one in the Plaza de la Fábrica de la Luz (Calle Almirante Baldasano).
