Pilar Barreiro José Ballesta and inaugurate the road between tailings and Santa Lucia, which is "an alternative exit to the main arteries of the industrial site"
The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, and the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, today laid foundation stone for the refurbishment of the RM-320 road, between tailings and Portman Road.
This action will represent "a significant improvement in access to the Repsol refinery and will provide greater security to communications in the Valley of tailings, the largest chemical industrial zone of the Region of Murcia and one of the major energy centers of Spain" , said the director.
In addition, José Ballesta, Pilar Barreiro, today inaugurated the road connecting the towns of tailings and Santa Lucia, RM-F46, which means "the opening of an alternative exit route to the main arteries of the industrial site, as set forth in the Plan Emergency and Evacuation Escombreras Valley, increasing driver safety, especially for workers who come daily to the industrial core, "said the counselor.
The project has been the overall improvement of the road with two layers of asphalt, installation of safety barriers, placement of new signage and layout of the ditches with concrete.
Both actions are part of the Improvement Plan for Integral Development of the Industrial Zone Escombreras Valley, a series of actions promoted by the regional government with an investment of 257.6 million euros, which includes 43 measures to boost security accessibility, mobility, infrastructure and equipment in this industrial center that produces more than 10 percent of energy consumed throughout the country.
Access to the refinery and dock
Councilor José Ballesta said that "the refurbishment of the road that begins today will improve access to the Repsol refinery in tailings and facilitate entry into the different industries in the area."
This action includes strengthening the firm of RM-320, which goes Escombreras road to Portman Road and connects with the RM-322, which gives access to the refinery and tailings railway station.
The works include construction of a roundabout at the junction of two roads, which will resolve a conflict and improve intersection safety.
Both roads are characterized by high heavy vehicle traffic, so it's a performance that will particularly benefit the carriers.
Moreover, the Ministry has recently initiated the drafting of the new access to the tailings basin from Cartagena, a measure contained in the Plan to Promote the regional government, which will encourage economic development in the Valley and boost business by a new access road communications backbone in the industrial core.
Once the draft text, which has a budget of 1.2 million euros, will begin construction of this new infrastructure.
