Nearly one penalty for failing to comply with pedestrian spaces and disabled (11/02/2010)

Cartagena Local Police imposed in 2009 a total of 898 penalties on drivers who invaded or hindered access or areas reserved for pedestrians and disabled, as reported by Javier Herrero, Councillor for Citizen Security.

That thousand complaints, more than half, namely 541, were caused by parking in areas marked for use only by persons with mobility problems, which, in addition to being punishable, is an insult to these people.

According to Herrero, precisely this kind of sanctions are intended to protect the right to travel and enjoy their city to the disabled.

Cartagena has made great efforts to expand pedestrian spaces and improve accessibility and we can not allow anti-social behavior, such as drivers who park in front of a discounted pass, or who leave the car in a disabled parking.

As for the rest of sanctions, the most significant drivers referred to parked in spaces reserved for emergency and safety services (106 complaints), parking lots or disturbed severely hampered the movement of pedestrians (81 complaints) or ring the vehicle or landscaped pedestrian areas (74 complaints).
