The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, opened today with President of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, and the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Environment, Antonio Cerdá, the filter-La Isla Plana Azohía that will protect water quality Mediterranean within 10 miles of coastline.
Barreiro explained that it is a filter, like the many that are being made throughout the region, which completes the purification of all water discharges that occurred towards the sea, in an important tourist area, from the Cape to Mazarrón.
The mayor pointed out that protection of the waters in this area serves another purpose as obtaining tourist blue flags for next summer.
So that the entire coast of the municipality of Cartagena will be recognized by the European Union and high quality beaches.
Pilar Barreiro has stressed that this work has involved an investment of almost 16 million euros and, in addition, the council has coordinated the work together with the Ministry to hire all works by connecting all homes.
For his part, Minister Antonio Cerda added that the project was implemented with the parameters set by the State of California.
Cerda explained that this is a secondary and tertiary treatment to eliminate all waste.
The facility, located near the promenade of El Canar, includes both own treatment as for collecting system with a capacity to refine about 6,000 cubic meters of water daily, which is the equivalent of roughly 25,000.
The area of Isla Plana, La Azohía has a population of about 2,000 inhabitants which summer alzcanza 10,000.
This infrastructure is designed to create minimal impact on the environment of ecological interest, with special environmental protection measures and deodorized enclosed buildings in which care is architecture and its integration into the environment.
