According to the mayor, the amphitheater will be, along with the Roman Theater and the Park of the windlass, the archaeological monuments that identifies our city on the tourist market and the world of research.
Where work has been done since December in the old bullring have begun to explore new rooms and monumental structures that were not expected: a first step, divided into five and separated by a corridor, and a stairwell, accessed the corridor.
This makes provision, according to the archaeologist who directed the excavations, Maria Carmen Berrocal, the dimensions of the amphitheater are similar to those of the arena, about 20 meters high and with various levels of terraces, although to be secure to await further studies, since not all are equal Amphitheater.
Currently have discovered 17 amphitheaters in the peninsula (Spain and Portugal), 6 with monumental structures, and the five most important are with Segóbriga Cartagena, Mérida, Italic and Tarraco.
As for the materials used, the stands are made of Roman mortar, volcanic rock and sandstone.
