The program (TAS) and Healthy Active Tourism City of Cartagena, held Friday, February 5, a new route for seniors who take the 50 participants from the slopes of cedacero to Peñas Blancas.

The route with a distance of 9.5 miles, crosses the Campo de Cartagena area by the slopes of Cedaceros to Peñas Blancas.

Access to the slopes of cedacero is from Cartagena on the road MU-6059, Cartagena-lsland Plana.

You can start the descent of the paved road along 1.7 km., Which is ancient cattle track known as the Slope Casting Cedaceros coming from Mazarron to Cartagena (29 km.) Crossing the bridge Bocaoria and raising the port to the Collado de Mazarrón, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the coastline, with Isla Plana and the bay of Mazarron.

The landscape is dominated by small terraced fields of almond and carob trees, with wild vegetation of thorny bushes and aromatic rosemary, lavenders and thyme.

The path on top of the hill is easily recognizable, made of stone to facilitate access to the mines of people and pack animals.

It continues in a northerly direction and finding the first mines of iron, is bordering passing a small reservoir of water and from this area reached the plateau of the hill of the Carrascas or Peñas Blancas.

Before reaching the summit, is the refuge of Peñas Blancas, built by climbers, where you can take a break and enjoy the magnificent views of the North of Campo de Cartagena and the Rambla del Canar, to the south, and out Tiñoso Mediterranean.

Sometimes in a really clear day, you can see the coast of Oran, west of Isla Plana, Mazarron Cabo Cope, Cabo de Gata, Sierra María and Sierra Nevada.

Towards the east we see Cartagena and Mar Menor.

From here it descends through the valley in the east by a well-defined path.

At the bottom of the valley, a track runs along the mountain, surrounded by almond and carob trees, and leads to a pig farm where the road joins the MU-6059.

The route EMARC within the TAS program, which includes activities on Friday titled hiking gear, which is planning a total of four routes in the first quarter of the year, this being the second performed.
