The Director General of Planning and Housing, Antonio Navarro, accompanied by the Town Planning and Sustainable Development of Cartagena, Joaquin Segado, today visited the rehabilitation work that the Ministry of Public Works and Land Management is running in several old buildings Cartagena, a performance that will help to restore the historical heritage of the city.
The works are part of the Comprehensive Conservation Plan and Adequacy of Facades, Roofing and Wall Displays, which includes a total of 15 performances in the old town of Cartagena through investment of two million euros from the regional government.
During 2009, seven have been executed in Cartagena facades (two on the street Villamartin, one in Santa Florentina, two in the Plaza San Francisco and another in the Calle San Francisco), with a total investment of 650,000 euros of which 75 per cent is in charge of administration and the remaining 25 percent of the private sector.
This action will continue with the rehabilitation of additional new facades along the year 2010, thereby supplementing the Plan that was launched in 2007 and which have been able to restore a hundred fronts in Cartagena.
It is the policy we are pursuing and intends to maintain, strengthen the hull of the city through tourism, trade and cultural heritage, even adapting to the times in which we mark today's economy, pointing Segado.
After verifying these actions, we have approached the neighborhood of Santa Lucia, where he carried out the architectural improvement efforts in an area declared as an Area of Integrated Rehabilitation (ARI), with the remodeling of a hundred houses.
According to CEO, this action will benefit a population with low and middle income developing a predominantly fishing activity.
CONTEST TO REMODEL THE PLAZA MOLINA
More than 100 architects compete for the competition for the redevelopment of the Plaza de Molina in the neighborhood of Santa Lucia which funds the Department of Planning and Housing, venue of the largest commercial and social activity in this neighborhood.
The plaza, which is part of Comprehensive Rehabilitation Area Santa Lucia, is a staging post for the locals, so important is to make aesthetic and functional improvements to generate a radical change in the perception of this public space of the port city.
