The chairman of the Youth Council, Manuel Soler, has described as 'very positive' the balance of the campaign to collect food that has been done in collaboration with Caritas San Diego, and has resulted in some 2,000 kilos of food not perishable items have been distributed in 160 bags for needy families in central district of Cartagena.
To Soler, is to highlight the involvement of all youth associations and the municipality of Cartagena, in general, have proven to be very aware of the needs to spend many families, so we must keep working on this line.
Milk, sugar, pulses and canned foods, foods have been provided during this campaign that began on December 1 and ending on 8 January.
The pastor of San Diego, Joaquín Ferrando, wanted to thank the initiative and call for such actions do not stay in a one-off, poverty is not momentary, always there, and therefore always necessary solidarity.
Today, Caritas San Diego on a daily basis serves about 70 families in the neighborhood, and feeds about 50 people daily in its soup kitchen.
The profile of these families, no longer is the typical immigrant family, but is increasingly Cartagena families, due to the crisis, have been affected by unemployment.
