The Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, today visited the newly renovated facilities of the Apollo Theater in the council of El Algar, after the work has been conducting the Autonomous Region for the rehabilitation of the building.
During his visit, Barreiro has been accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Pedro Alberto Cruz, and the council of Culture, Rosario Montero, and Decentralization, Nicolás Ángel Bernal.
In addition, there is the happy coincidence that today is met 103 years of the opening of the Teatro Apollo in El Algar, as Pilar Barreiro said that it is a great time to reopen it, if only on this occasion to algarineros all can see the restoration, although the theater are still many details that may be able to do theater or cinema.
The mayor also stressed that work on the Apollo Theater is a long-time commitment since it was badly damaged and had to spend much effort, money and time.
The rehabilitation works are longer and more expensive than new constructions, but is the science of El Algar and therefore had to recover.
A THEATRE WITH SILL
The Apollo Theater was built in 1905 by architect Pedro Cerdan, and was opened on January 4, 1907.
Today marks exactly 103 years since its opening.

The Apollo Circus Theatre El Algar (Cartagena) is a Cultural, according to Decree No. 11/1998 of March 12, the Governing Council of the Autonomous Region of Murcia.
Its restoration was begun in 2006 by the Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Community.

DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
The works undertaken have focused on the treatment of walls affected by humidity and remodeling of front holes, placing ceilings through the collection of casts and original parquet flooring on main floor.
Also being worked on partial wall and floor tiling, restoration and renovation of carpentry and metal work, installation of sanitary ware in bathrooms, improvements to the water network and sanitation interventions and coated internal walls of the main facade, reconstruction the cornices of brick and limestone base at the perimeter of the theater.
Decks have been renovated and has been involved in the structural elements, such as conducting slab on stage and the proscenium boxes.
In addition, the curtain has been restored by the Center for Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Property in the Region of Murcia, and mounted the stage machinery, stage machinery, lighting and sound.
Finally, we have restored the main access doors, furniture and all the original furnishings of the theater, and the implementation of new furniture to place in the main hall of the theater
