IU in the region today criticized the Department of Industry, Energy and Mines to authorize the construction of an incinerator in the Valley of tailings (Cartagena), considering that this infrastructure will jeopardize the health of citizens and worsen the quality air.
The head of IU Environment in the Region, Victoria Rodriguez, has indicated that the projection of that incinerator does not meet the criteria of sustainability, which is inconsistent with the objective of combating climate change the EU summit begins today in Brussels.
"The building of an incinerator in tailings, a valley with many industries and recording episodes of air pollution will cause harm to the population residing near the area and the municipality of Cartagena in general," she added.
He added that the regional government committed to an industry "unhealthy, dangerous and polluting" while the EU advocates a sector "sustainable and clean energy," so he has not ruled out resorting to legal authorities to prevent the construction of the incinerator.
