The City Council will appeal the sanction of Marmara by the discharge of sewage from the old Aljorra (17/11/2009)

Municipal Government spokesman, Joaquin Segado, has announced that the City of Cartagena appeal the penalty imposed upon the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM), by dumping the old water treatment plant of La Aljorra.

This penalty is a fine of EUR 47,288.62, and compensation for damage to public water 7093.29 euros.

Mowing has complained of discriminatory treatment compared to other municipalities, with different political orientation.

In particular he referred to the City Council of Los Alcazares which every summer has been pouring untreated water to the boardwalk and the Abujón repeatedly have forced the City of Cartagena to close the beaches of Los Urrutias.

According Segado, draws attention not only to punish the City of Los Alcazares but is also the Ministry itself which solutions the problem of over-building of this county, funding the construction of a new treatment plant.

Municipal Government spokesman pointed out that the penalty imposed on the City of Cartagena refers to discharge performed in August 2008, three months before the end of the current construction of the sewage Aljorra, which cost 10 million euros, paid by the Autonomous Community.

No means that we now get this penalty: when the new treatment plant has been nine months now fully operational and have not returned to discharges occur, the council concluded.
