The Ministry of Environment and Rural and Mariano (MARM) has agreed to the City of Cartagena impose a penalty of EUR 47,288.62, and compensation for damage to public water 7093.29 euros for a discharge from the Wastewater Treatment treatment plant (WWTP) in The Aljorra conducted in late August 2008.
The disciplinary proceedings were initiated during the summer of last year by the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS) with a visit to the area of agency personnel and taking samples from 28 August to 2 September.
The analysis of samples from the hamlet of Cartagena, led to the initiation of disciplinary proceedings for serious, which provides for fines of 30,000 euros and 300,000 euros.
Cartagena City Council claimed that the WWTP had outdated technology that prevented a more thorough cleaning of waste water, and they also ended up in a raft for further agricultural use.
However, the Ministry has estimated, first, that the Constistorio Cartagena should be informed of the conditions of the filter to adapt and pollutant discharge limits.
She also pointed out that there is no provision for agricultural use refined resources at the WWTP, and although the license has been granted, the owner of the station is not exempt from compliance with existing legislation on waste.
