Cartagena Port of Cultures has completed all actions that have been conducted at Fort Christmas, with the aim of creating an area for recreation and enjoyment for both the city and for tourists, which will be inaugurated by the mayor, Pilar Barreiro, on Monday 16 November at 11.30 am, accompanied by among other authorities of the Directors General of Tourism, Marina Garcia, and Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, Enrique Ujaldón.
These actions have involved the adequacy of the environment outside of Fort Christmas and strengthen musealization the interior.
In regard to the suitability of the environment outside, first there has been a phase of demolition of buildings in the area were abandoned and posed a visual barrier to Fort Christmas.
This action has affected the fisherman's house and adjacent construction, as the electricity transformer station that was on the other side of the fortification.
In addition, there has been a total renovation of the pavement using natural materials which allow a walk and recreation area, bordering the sea with natural stone blocks that define the area and make it a pedestrian area, restricting the entry of vehicles.
It also has carried out the landscaping of the entire area with mixed vegetation that allows both the beautification of the area such as the attainment of a shaded area.
On the other hand, another of the actions we have undertaken has been the exterior lighting of the Fort Christmas and environment, trying to signal the road and ramps to the entrance of the fort, and the monumental lighting of the building.
To end it has given the whole area of street furniture, benches and bins, which are in themselves very interesting architectural pieces.
To meet these works has signed an agreement between Cartagena Port of Cultures and the Port Authority of Cartagena for being a public port area, with the contribution of the second which has funded the lighting of the entire site.
COASTAL HERITAGE IN AN EXHIBITION
The other part of the action taken at Fort Christmas has been strengthening internal musealization.
On the one hand, it has produced an audiovisual presentation narrated the various stages of recovery and restoration of Fort Christmas, popular material for visitors.
On the other hand, has made a large model that covers a portion of the coast of Cartagena and provides battery status and scope of the various deployments gunners that over time have been made to defend the city and its port, from the S.

On the occasion of the renovated facilities, Cartagena Puerto de Culturas opens exhibition on photographic album of forts and batteries at the port of Cartagena, dated 1901, which aims to highlight the architectural changes suffered in the batteries defending the port of Cartagena late nineteenth century.
This exhibition is based on a document that illustrates in an exceptional remodeling process of the fortifications of the port of Cartagena during the second half of the nineteenth century, and is in the collections of the Royal Library of Madrid, gift from Cartagena is made to Alfonso XIII.
It consists of a total of twenty-four images, most unpublished, of great documentary value, since some of them not only illustrate the results of the new works but also the battery status before executing the remodeling projects.
Besides the historical significance of this album is that emphasize the artistic value of its binding.
