The president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), José Salvador Fuentes Zorita, and the Community of Irrigators of Campo de Cartagena, Francisco Saez, today signed the surrender document of the works to eliminate pumping groups Canal del Campo de Cartagena.
The improvement of emergency declared, involving the replacement of such groups for a modernized distribution system whose implementation involves an investment of 800,000 euros through the company Urdecón Murcia.
The area over which it acts is a strip of land of 800 hectares whose topography prevents irrigation by gravity.
So far there were about 50 small pumping units installed by the owners to supply water to their fields, a system that involved not only a high electricity cost but difficult to control resources.
The CHS will replace this outdated infrastructure for a pipeline parallel to the channel with 46 taps.
This will feed through five pumps which replace the previous 50 that capture water from main lines of the irrigation community.
The new system allows, as already indicated, provide water to the flow and accuracy needed for irrigation under optimal conditions, with the possibility of using a remote device.
Also improve water management by reducing the number of strokes, matching the service you have provided users with the entire irrigation area in the Campo de Cartagena.
At the same time implies a saving of water due to the improvement of facilities and, finally, energy and environmental savings, as it provides the option to adjust the pump power to the various needs of the area, optimizing the overall performance with the resulting economic benefit.
