The local police began the campaign to control the use of mobile phones by drivers (10/11/2009)

Cartagena Local Police is conducting a campaign on the use of mobile phones while driving, which began yesterday and runs through Nov. 22.

In this campaign involving all police operational units, both serving in the various city and county councils.

In controls that are making you pay attention to the following offenses:

* Use of mobile phones.

* Use of headphones or earphones connected to receivers or audio players other than the mobile phone.

* Use or handling during the conduct of internet access screens, monitors, video or DVD players, or browsers.

* All types of events that cause distraction while driving.

In the conduct of the campaign, officers fill out a form on which recording the violations reported, the command responsible for delivering traffic area.

The results of the campaign will be stored on computer for statistical analysis and be comparable with other campaigns being carried out.

The campaign of the local police in Cartagena is part of which will be held nationwide during the same dates by the Provincial Traffic Department.

ONE OF THE MAIN CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS

Distractions while driving are a major cause of accidents.

Particularly the misuse of the phone significantly increases the risk of accident, not only because of the improper use or poor hand, but by driver distraction.

In 2008 there were in Spain 93,161 traffic accidents with victims.

Distraction appears to be contributing factor in 37% of accidents.

Roadside distraction factor is presented as 44% of cases and in urban areas by 31%.
