A total of 380 families in the region make the registration of applicants for adoption that has opened the Department of Social Policy, Women and Immigration, whose owner, Joaquín Bascuñana, inaugurated this morning the 'II Adoption Day "held in Cartagena.
Bascuñana welcomed the 350 participants in the event and stressed the importance of holding a meeting of this kind, because "it is a way to bring all information to people who are interested in starting a process of adoption or those that these moments are immersed in it. "
The owner of Social Policy presented the statistics that exist about adoption in the region and said that, as of November 2009, "the number of adoptions, both in the region and internationally, has seen a decline over the last four years that the trend was a significant increase. "
However, this year there have been 133 applications for adoption in the region that already there are 53 proposals in the Family Court, while in the case of international adoptions have been 107 requests made.
Within this latter group are still countries like China, Ethiopia, Russia, Ukraine and Vietnam the most popular sources for applicants.
On the other hand, Bascuñana explained that the initiatives launched by the Community, as the Charter of Adoption Services and the electronic processing of documents through electronic apostille, have been instrumental in speeding up these processes.
Finally, the Minister said that "adoption is a process that requires all the safeguards to ensure the child's welfare and security for families and these two pillars are those who control initiatives in the Ministry of adoption."
