The President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, highlighted the value of the Organization of the Blind as a "symbol of solidarity and social integration of people with visual disabilities" in Spain.
Valcárcel spoke these words during the opening ceremony of the new headquarters of ONCE in Cartagena, a place that will provide better service to all partners in the region.
ONCE, the president said, "has become a permanent center for education and training, a social agent of absolute reference, which allows comprehensive care for disabled people to develop their skills and face the future, overcoming many barriers exclusion and marginalization. "
The regional chief executive toured the new facility, accompanied by the mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, the Minister of Social Policy, Joaquín Bascuñana, and President of ONCE, Miguel Carballeda.
During the visit, Valcárcel found, he said, the potential partners to this new headquarters, "because of its location in the environment of a university neighborhood, a symbol of the rebirth of the city, and the uniqueness of the building ".
The new facilities in Cartagena ONCE offer the 775 members of this association in the region a modern infrastructure, which incorporates multiple services from other rehabilitation programs to learn new technologies, socio-cultural or sports.
Today, this organization and its Foundation employ 508 people in Cartagena, and have made an investment of about 800,000 euros for the different services available to members.
Valcárcel said the regional government's commitment to continue working and supporting initiatives in the region ONCE, because "doing work that benefits not only partners but also the entire society of Murcia," he concluded.
