Note from UPyD:
The restoration of the former headquarters of the CIM, has resulted in the recovery, after its restoration and empowerment in an area of exceptional quality that has been built on the premises of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
The property was donated by the Ministry of Defense through an agreement with the UPCT.
The location and unique characteristics of the gateway to the CIM, have caused this not be included in the restoration project.
UPyD of Cartagena, and arguments presented to the General Urban Plan (Plan), among which included a statement requesting a Cultural (BIC) Arsenal's environment, including the door of the CIM.
Therefore, Cartagena UPyD opposes the demolition of that door, as a significant architectural element of the city.
We propose a restoration project and integration that permits their inclusion in the surroundings of the building, accessibility adaptations that are necessary.
Cartagena UPyD considers that the conservation of the heritage of our city can not be at odds with the functionality of the restored buildings.
Both principles must find a balance.
