To perform this critical edition, Professor Andrews had visited the facilities of Trustees Carmen Conde-Antonio Oliver, to consult the original documents preserved.
The poems are in Spanish, and English commentary.
The publisher has included this amount in Texts Hispanics collection, which included authors such as García Márquez, García Lorca, Neruda and Lope de Vega.
It has a print run was 5,000 copies.
The Civil War deeply marked Carmen Conde, leading him to write several poetic prose works were not published until much later.
Among them, the series of prose poems entitled While the men die and the dead children of war (1937-1939).
The work, the Board retains the manuscript Carmen Conde-Antonio Oliver, was written during the time spent in Valencia Carmen Conde, in the midst of war.
Some of the poems were published in 1937, so did the Barcelona Company magazine in three issues of that year, and the newspaper La Verdad de Murcia.
In 1944, five poems appeared in the Mediterranean: script for Literature, published by the University of Valencia, and another eight in the magazine Garcilaso, the following year.
But the complete collection was made for the first time outside Spain, in 1953, collected under the first title, by the Istituto Editoriale Cisalpino of Milan, in the care of Juana Granados.
In Spain it was not until the publication of volume poetry of Carmen Conde (1929-1966), Emilio Miró care, which includes these poems of war.
Although written as a result of that specific experience, while men die is a timeless work and extrapolated to any war.
As explained by the author herself:
While the men killed was written in a time of intense sorrow for what the war destroyed and continue to destroy.
No specific men, but all men are crying here with the deep sorrow felt by a woman before the inscrutable designs that allow the horror he lived the confident smile.
The poems to the children killed in the war, contained in this book, I was torn from the depths of despair involved with yet.
All pain is useless, I knew then and I know better now.
And yet, say out loud how much you're suffering from what seems inevitable that blurs all boundaries between others and us.
And that was the only consolation was then found.
