For the third consecutive year, Cartagena International Day of Co-operating with the aim of publicizing the work of thousands of volunteers working in Third World countries.
This day, September 8, coincides with the signing of the Millennium Declaration goals of the UN.
The City of Cartagena, through the Development Cooperation Council, consisting of 14 NGOs working on projects to help improve living conditions in Third World countries.
In 2008, the City Council specifically supported seven projects under joint Youth Without Borders, Friends of the Saharawi people, Caritas, Action Fire, Chinguetti Foundation, Manos Unidas, and campaign against hunger, with a total investment of 240,000 euros, for African countries as Mahuritania, Cameroon, Zambia, Algeria and South American countries like Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, among others.
This year the total amount of aid increased by 20,000 euros (260,000 euros), which aims to cover 90% of new applications that will aim to make work training, employment, infrastructure in foreign countries, especially African and South America.
Among these measures, the councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon, this morning the Third Conference of Solidarity of Cartagena, where we aim to meet the collaboration of thousands of aid workers struggling to eradicate poverty and inequality among peoples, in a comprehensive program that integrates several activities that will run until October 24.
The September 14th Children Contest starts a drawing and painting, entitled "Solidarity and Poverty Millennium Development Goals, aimed at students of 2nd and 3rd year of primary school, informing them of the voluntary and problems in other countries.
In addition, from 19 to 24 October, the Military History Museum will display the work of the centers and exhibition Contigo another world is possible.
All these actions will end on October 24, with a range of activities, workshops and cooperative games to be developed in the Plaza Juan XXIII, from 11.00 hours until 19.00 hours.
Regarding Cooperating Day, Councilman Antonio Calderon said the next plenary session, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities filed a joint motion to support the day of the volunteer and the work of thousands of volunteers.
