IU + Greens in the Assembly has proposed developing a regional plan that includes the reuse of wastewater treatment plant Azohía-La Isla Plana (Cartagena) in agriculture and the creation of wetlands for wildlife in the environment.
Alongside this initiative, IU + Greens submitted a motion requesting the opening of an information package in order to ascertain the reasons which have led to the emergence of discharges from the Rambla del Canar of that season, still has not officially entered into operation.
According to the Environment responsible for IU in the Region (IURM), Victoria Rodriguez, the project of building the treatment plant, financed by European funds, has called "another example of the inefficiency, insolvency and disregard of public administrations in the environment. "
He said the sewage project "and started with a bad foot," including an estimate as "exaggerated" the increase in population in the area, which, in its view, "served as an open door to justify future efforts urban development "in Isla Plana and La Azohía.
In addition, Rodriguez claimed that the station has been built on undeveloped land and an environmentally sensitive area declared a nature reserve, near the Sierra de la Muela-Cabo Tiñoso, a place of community interest and special protection for birds.
He also criticized the delay in construction works of the treatment plant and indicated that IU + Greens have each submitted questions to the Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, to give explanations about the treatment capacity of this infrastructure and the final budget of construction, estimated initially at 7 million euros.
