Pilar Barreiro The mayor said this morning, when asked by reporters, that the City and the Commonwealth claim that the Ministries of Environment and Defense, owners of several of the coastal batteries in the municipality of Cartagena, make them available to a future Oceanographic Observatory, a project sponsored by the Regional and Local governments that would manage the Technical University of Cartagena.
Batteries that are considered appropriate for this project are the San Isidro and Santa Florentina and Santa Ana, all located on the left side of the bay.
These facilities are owned by the Ministry of Defense and its use is transferred to the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs.
Barreiro added that this request has been forwarded by the Minister of Universities, Business and Research, Salvador Marín and that she has given this request in the form of initiative in the Congress of Deputies.
The mayor pointed out that the same request was made for the enhancement of Fort Christmas, because it was entering the tourist routes planned and the Defense Ministry made a grant of use for the benefit of the City Council to create the Fort Christmas.
