The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and the Councillor for Tourism, presented this morning a new service of multimedia GPS tour assistance from the city, which is placed at the forefront of the national scene in the provision of tourist services.
Cartagena is therefore a pioneer in the Region of Murcia and the third largest city in Spain that launches a service like this, the other two are Cordoba and Santander.
We emphasize not only the quality of our monuments and cultural heritage but also our firm commitment to implementation and use of new technologies, making Cartagena at the forefront of tourism services, said the mayor.
Cartagena tourists visiting the city can discover through a simple handheld computer that provides information on more than 60 points of cultural attractions and offers 300 images and explanatory texts.
The contents are shown in audio and video, and provide pathways to the three main tourist routes:
'A walk with history', runs the 3,000-year history of the Punic city from the current Cartagena.
'Cartagena, the port and naval defenses', runs through the main buildings and monuments of military and those monuments located around the port.
'Cartagena modernist: a tour of the modernist legacy that keeps the city and puts us in Cartagena at the beginning of the twentieth century.
This system also allows the tourist guide to setting up your own tour.
The GPS system is equipped to set the best route to go from one focus to another.
Complete with pictures of major landmarks and monuments of the documented information and tourism resources.
It will also allow seamless access to the cuisine, entertainment and shopping in the city.
Tourists can rent these devices in the three main centers of Puerto de Culturas: The Roman Theatre Museum, the shelters of the Civil War and the Punic Wall, returning to any of these centers.
The rental price is 10 euros and 3 euros for those who purchase the fertilizer from Puerto de Culturas.
