The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and the Minister of Health, María Ángeles Palacios, have chaired this morning the opening ceremony of the new offices of the group The Huertecica in the building of the Miracle in the former facilities of the Municipal Rehabilitation and replacing the center that this group was on Fourth Street Saints.
This is a Meeting and Reception Center aimed at reducing risks and harms associated with drug use and social exclusion and improving quality of life and community awareness about people in greatest social damage.
The Class Association Huertecica launched it in 1998.
Since then, the City works with them for a subvention this year was 150,000 euros, of which 5,000 are intended for specific attention to migrants, as indicated by the mayor.
As noted by the chairman of the group The Huertecica, Diego Cruzado, with this new center, whose facilities have been donated by the City, has been serving more than ten people in the old plant.
Cross has indicated that a year serving about 300 people at 35 or 45 daily.
For example, of the 281 users who were treated in 2008, 34 found jobs, 32 accedierion to vocational training, 59 found a home, 9 returned to their original families, 38 agreed to treatment at Cartagena and 142 CAD documentation processed Basic (DNI, passport ...).
Health programs (showers, laundry, closet ...) and Health, which provides care from a doctor, nurse and health mediation, are the most demanded by users.
Cross noted that in recent months have seen more people who do not belong to the groups of drug addicts and destitute who come to the Centre asking for the minimum services such as breakfast, showers, changing clothes and cleaning.
These services are minimal, said Cross, enabling us to establish a link with them, from there, improve their quality of life and try to insert them into society again.
The Ministry of Health, meanwhile, provides medical staff, who came to the center at least once a week, and collaboration with health centers for users to take necessary medication.
The Department also contributes a grant of 600,000 euros to the Association Colectivo La Huertecica to develop its activities in the different centers.
Through its various areas of activity, the Association Colectivo La Huertecica has served during 2008 to 1,468 individuals and 268 families.
The Department of Education therapeutic intervention is aimed at people affected by the negative consequences of drug abuse and their families.
This area includes the Meeting and Reception Center.
The Social Inclusion Area, meanwhile, develops projects to ensure that people with special difficulties for the insertion acquire a series of basic skills that allow function in society and in the area of social intervention programs are implemented that encourage individual and collective awareness, social participation ...
