To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of Chekara Orchestra of Tetouan and the tenth anniversary of the death of its founder, Abdessadak Chekara, Zapata Pepe directed the documentary So close, yet so far: The Orchestra Chekara in Flamenco, a trip Morocco trip from Granada who may be this afternoon for the first time in Spain at the Nuevo Teatro Circo, after 19 hours.
As explained by Zapata, the film started in November 2007 at the invitation of the family Chekara.
It begins as a physical journey through the history, places, and the members of the orchestra, a path of transformation and mixing of music and cultures.
In his immigration from Tetuan to Granada, the Chekara family members through several generations, not only have encouraged the twinning of Arabic music and flamenco, but have worked actively in the conservation of Andalusian music.
From the hand of Jallal Chekara, Adbessadak nephew and current leader of the orchestra, the author traces the history of that family through footage collected from Moroccan television and testimony from family members still alive.
Also part of the footage some of the musicians who have collaborated with them.
Pepe Segundo Falcón Bean, through Carmen Linares or Lebrijano, are Morente Heredia and who shaped the history of important musical associations of this band.
