The Governing Council has approved an agreement between the Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) for the selection of scientific infrastructure projects co-financed by the European Development Fund (ERDF) to respond to the needs of economic development in the region and its ability to transform research results into products and services with high added value.
Thus, the project which will take place is the construction of the second phase of the laboratory building of heavy research on the campus of La Muralla del Mar in Cartagena.
These facilities will serve to research and technology development for industrial engineering education.
The Ministry of Science and Innovation is committed to the selected project, with a total of three million euros, is financed by the ERDF funds allocated to the Directorate General of Research and Management of National Plan I + D + i, an amount of 70 percent.
This percentage means that the Ministry anticipates the UPCT 2.1 million euros.
The university, meanwhile, will provide 30 percent of the national co-financing, representing an amount of 900,000 euros.
The autonomous region has prompted the Ministry's funding of this infrastructure, essential for the consolidation of UPCT as a national benchmark in technological research.
