The Information Commission of Urban Planning of the City of Cartagena has ruled favorably by unanimous tentative approval of the amendment No. 130 of PGMOU in Sector Z and CE-2 in Cartagena, on the former grounds of Zins in Torreciega, thereby fulfilling its commitment to the company , which must now build a new factory in Los Camachos for the maintenance of existing jobs.
Municipal approval will take effect in the near full and will in any case conditional on the firm meets their contractual commitments.
The proposal reported by the committee will use changes of the 638,000 meters square occupied by the former plant, which will be converted into industrial land to residential land.
This will result in about 300,000 square feet of floor area for housing and another 24,000 square feet for tertiary use.
The amendment also provides the space needed for general systems, spaces, equipment and communications.
It will be recalled on 18 August 2006, the City of Cartagena signed a deal with Spanish Zinc to rezone the land, subject to the relocation of industrial activity and the maintenance of jobs, according to a previous agreement reached between workers and business.
As pointed out by the Town Planning, Joaquín Segado, with this process the City has done everything that was committed and has stated that the reclassification, which still must be approved by the Autonomous Community, would not occur if the company finally does not comply with the agreement.
