Cerdá presents the exhibition 'Landscape Calblanque versus UM' (17/06/2009)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today presented the exhibition 'Landscape Calblanque versus UM', comprising 21 works of large format (120x120 cm), captured in acrylic and oil on wood by students of the Faculty of Fine Arts University of Murcia, which show the characteristic landscapes Calblanque Regional Park.

This exhibition is a collaboration initiated in 2007 between the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, and that faculty, which aims to introduce students, future artists, in the knowledge of the nature of the Region of Murcia.

The project consists of two lines of action.

The line of botanical illustration is intended to open a possible avenue of work students, for which it is necessary to know the basics of vegetable and scientific illustration, as well as the previous steps of documentary work.

In the dedicated line to the Protected Natural Areas staff of the Directorate General provides guidance to teachers and students of the subject of 'Landscape' on your journey through these different spaces and transmits them knowledge of their flora, fauna, geology and history.

With this information the paintings becomes more interesting, it gives meaning and can act as a communicator and a sensitizer.

As an exercise in order to subject the students performed a piece inspired by the places they have visited.

In 2008, the model was the Regional Park of Cabo Cope-Calnegre.

This year the venue has been the Regional Park Calblanque.

Given the interest of the work, "says the director," decided to organize an itinerant exhibition that served as a popularizer of our nature and at the same time to promote young artists. "

According to Antonio Cerda "our protected areas are a scenic resource that deserves to be revealed and reported."

Therefore, he added, "Initiatives like this are a perfect vehicle for society to know and appreciate the values of this common heritage that we must all keep, each contributing from their area of work and knowledge."

The director expressed his hope that "the rapprochement between the disciplines of art and nature conservation will help preserve our natural heritage."

Referring to the title of the exhibition, Cerda said that the term 'versus' must be understood in its Latin sense, meaning 'oriented' or 'direction', and not as its deformation Saxon, meaning 'in opposition' , 'against'.
