The City of Cartagena, through Aquagest company has begun the second round of the annual campaign planned for insect and rodent control of the municipal sewerage network, which began last March.
At this stage the focus areas to be treated on the beaches, to the influx of people expected in the summer, this year highlighting the inclusion of Urbanization San Ginés de La Azohía in the campaign, so that even on 23 June Bugs sewage, as well as in the Azohía in La Manga, Cabo de Palos Cala Flores, Playa Honda, Playa Paraiso, Mar de Cristal and Islas Menores grandchildren and Urrutias (The Carmolí and Punta Brava) .
The campaign will continue during the months of July and August at the provincial and ends in the town.
The sewerage network in the municipality of Cartagena is currently composed of nearly 1,000 kilometers of network, some 12,150 scuppers and 32,442 manholes.
As the treatment takes place, is the pressure spray disinfection of all sewage wells and scuppers with a residual pesticide (consisting of an aqueous preparation alphacypermethrin 1% and 2% diazinon), and rodenticide bait suspended in approximately one in three drainage wells (two paraffin blocks of brodifacoum).
In the fumigation carried out during 2008, 42,175 liters of insecticide used and 2,050 kilograms of rat bait.
The team that performs these tasks consists of five people, who have a 4x4 vehicle, signage and a full dosage of the product team treating pressure.
There are two laps to the sewer system, starting in March and ending in September, three months between the first and second rounds.
Thus, the time synchronization allows the busiest period of the plague coincides with the start of the second round, which remains controlled throughout the year.
However, any impacts are addressed outside the months presets.
Thanks to this work continued, the infestation levels of cockroach (Periplaneta americana), for example, are very low.
