The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, and the Director General of Sports, Antonio Peñalver, presided last night Gala XXIX Cartagenero Sports Awards, an annual event organized by the Sports Council which presented the awards to athletes, organizations, clubs and most important sporting events of 2008.
Remember that this year, the awards for best male and female athletes were awarded to the swimmer Sergio Gomez and paddle tennis player Patricia Llaguno, respectively.
In addition, it has been recognized Patricia Carrión, in the terms of athletics, handball and football as the best athlete revelation and Audi Med Cup regatta sailing as the best sporting event was held in Cartagena in the last year.
Sports Gala this year has consisted in a simple ceremony held at the Centro Cultural Ramón Alonso Luzzy with presenting awards to the winners, not the traditional dinner which was held in previous years, austerity that characterized times crisis they face.
