The director general of tourism infrastructure, Marina Garcia, today attended a meeting with representatives of the Consortium 'Cartagena Puerto de Culturas', which was also attended by the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, and in which it was found that the number of visits to the centers of the consortium until the month of May grew by 77 percent over the same period last year.
The greater movement of tourists came to the Roman Theater and Museum, which received nearly half of all visits, while refugees and the catamaran are the most popular resources for tourists.
The total number of visitors exceeds 129,000, compared to the 72,000 recorded between January and May 2009.
60 percent of visitors came from outside the region and foreign visitors account for nearly 30 percent of the total.
Domestic visitors mainly come from the Community of Madrid by 59 percent, of Valencia by 17 percent, of Andalusia, with seven percent and Catalonia, with a five per cent.
Nearly half of foreign visitors from the United Kingdom, while 30 percent came from Germany and ten percent, France.
