The number of visits to places of Cartagena, Puerto de Culturas until the month of May has increased by 77 percent over the same period last year, as stated by the mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, following the Annual General Meeting Shareholders of the company, held this morning at the Palace Hall.
The mayor believes that these results demonstrate the success of the proposed cultural and tourist Cartagena and stressed that we are approaching half of all visits last year when it has not yet reached the summer season with the greatest influx of visitors.
The total number of visitors exceeds 129,000, compared to the 72,000 recorded between January and May 2008.
60 percent of visitors came from outside the region and foreign visitors account for nearly 30 percent of the total.
This greater movement of tourists have been attracted especially by the Roman Theatre and museum, which received nearly half of all visits.
Catamaran Shelters and other resources are most in demand by tourists.
Domestic visitors mainly from the communities of Madrid by 59 percent, Valencia by 17 percent, Ontario (7%) and Catalonia (5%).
Nearly half of foreign visitors from the United Kingdom, 30 percent came from Germany and the French have been 10 percent of the total.
With regard to the enhancement of our archaeological heritage, the mayor has announced that the Governing Council of the Autonomous Region on Friday approved a batch of 500,000 euros for the adequacy of the remains of the winch.
Remember that the Community had provided a consignment of 1,500,000 euros to invest in two years, leaving for the remaining one million next year.
