The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, next to the mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, today visited works in the future Palace of Sports of the municipality, which are well advanced, and reaching 55 percent of execution.
It is estimated that the works, with a budget of 15 million euros, to be completed in April 2010.
Cruz said that the Palace of Sports "will meet several objectives, such as professional sport and sport development and educational base, with an annexe and a heated pool open to all citizens of the city."
The Cartagena Sports Palace will house a main sports hall capacity of 5,000 spectators, as well as a ward assistant and a pool, in addition to the offices of the Department of Sports of Cartagena, a gym, a medical center and various administrative areas and of venues for clubs.
The sports facility, which stands on an area of nearly 30,000 square meters, is conceived as a unique piece that combines functionality and aesthetics.
It also provides significant energy saving measures and water due to the introduction of bioclimatic passive measures and the implementation of renewable energy.
The main hall with capacity for 5,000 spectators, is the space for major sporting events, shows or other mass events.
In the basement will be located to the team locker room and the main visitor parking area arbitrators, which will give access to these agencies and the VIP area.
There will also be equipped with auxiliary flag a grandstand for 600 spectators, while upstairs there are two multipurpose classrooms.
Among the main building and auxiliary units will be located in the Sports Department of Cartagena, distributed between the ground floor and first floor.
The pool, gym and activity rooms, along with the flag auxiliary space are integrated sports palace.
Your access to and performance tours allow fully autonomous and independent from the rest of the building.
It projects a glass of swimming, a glass of education and a splash, and a spa and sauna area.
On the first floor cafeteria is placed with independent access.
