The head of the regional Health said it is anticipated that the works are finished early next February, so it will be operational in the second half of 2010 and will be the referral hospital for all Health Area II, serving the municipalities of Cartagena, Fuente Alamo, La Union and Mazarrón.
To date it has executed more than 81 percent of the facades and interior walls, about 90 percent of air-conditioning, ventilation and heating and 70 percent exceed the parking area, urbanization, the transportation system , plumbing and solar thermal collection.

The new Hospital of Cartagena will be top-level reference for the new Hospital del Mar Menor and even regionally in certain pathologies.

Likewise, the future reference hospital in Cartagena will feature a specific service burn, will also have a new Unit of Plastic Surgery and enhance the area of peripheral vascular surgery with a new catheterization laboratory.
The center will have integrated operating rooms, which enable the communication of image and data, a new arc vascular hemodynamics unit, two new MRI equipment and many other computerized axial tomography (CT) technology.
