Yesterday was World Book Day and yesterday ended the votes on the democratic awards of Spanish literature.
Mandarache Prize jury, composed of 2,100 young people between 15 and 30, has chosen the novel by Luis Leante as your favorite of this year.
Leante thus becomes the first Murcia in clinching the award.
Since September 2008 the young participants (high school students, college students, youth associations and registered for free) to participate in the committee structure have Mandarache reading novels read and discussed them freely provided the City of Cartagena and were able to meet the three finalists authors, talk to them, ask questions and share your impressions before the time came to vote.
The fifth edition of Mandarache Award complements the first call Hache Youth Literature Prize, which has fallen on the Andreu Barcelona writer for his novel Martin Chats (Algar, 2008), the most votes from the 1,080 adolescents aged 12 to 14 years who constituted the jury award.
Category awards have a prize of 3,000 euros respectively and a sculpture by Angel Haro, and will be delivered by the Mayor of Cartagena to the winning writers on Wednesday May 6 in the Nuevo Teatro Circo Cartagena, in a ceremony led by Luisma Soriano .
During the awards ceremony will be unveiled the finalists for the next edition.
Mandarache prize is an original strategy to promote reading among young people created by the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena and public libraries and developed from the work of an advocacy group that integrates the efforts of teachers, booksellers, publishers , neighborhood associations, libraries, youth clubs and young players and that is producing excellent results in their quest to create new young readers.
