The City of Cartagena and the local board of the Spanish Association against Cancer, in collaboration with the sculptor Elorrieta Cartagena Fernando Saenz, who made the whale tail can be seen in the harbor, have launched a solidarity campaign to raise funds to be allocated to prevention, investigation and psychological support to cancer patients in the city and family.
Under the name 'Solidarity Whale Tail', this campaign is offering for sale of a limited series of 200 miniature sculpture that reproduce the tail of this whale that looks at sea, near the old Yacht Club, which and are sold at a price of 300 euros and can be purchased or reserved in Sevres stores (both in the establishment of the Carmen Street and in that of Queen Victoria) and also the seat of the local board of the AECC in Ramon y Cajal (telephone 968 120 880).
Deputy Mayor, Agustín Guillén, said during the presentation of this joint action that the City is proud that a picture such as this sculpture, so identifying the city, it also symbolizes the fight against cancer, a struggle we are always willing to support.
The miniatures are original steel, hand-stamped and signed, notarized, and has chosen this image because the whale symbol of strength, tenacity and struggle, which has much to do with the character of an association like that represent, said the president of AECC in Cartagena, María Rosa Rosillo.
The sculptures Elorrieta Saenz, also present at the launch of the campaign, may be acquired during the charity dinner dance to be held on April 24 celebrations in the classroom aquarium.
JOINING FORCES
While in Cartagena AECC has been expanding in recent years, hovering at present 150 members and about 30 volunteers, it is certain that indicate the need for more staff, both partners and volunteers to continue their charitable work with cancer patients and their families.
Among the actions carried out include psychological support, group therapy and a leisure club which includes crafts, excursions and other activities.
In addition, they also carry out specific campaigns, like the one scheduled for next May for the prevention of skin cancer, with a mobile unit in the Plaza de Juan XXIII.
