The Councillor for Sustainable Development, Isaiah Camarzana, this morning attended the presentation of the campaign of collection of batteries that will be launched in Cartagena on the occasion of the celebration of Holy Week, an event that has taken place in the Ministry Agriculture and Water.
This is the second year running this campaign, backed by a successful pilot last year, and arises from the large number of batteries that are generated in the town to celebrate Easter, as penitents use them in their hachotes.
The result of the success of the first campaign, which resulted in 500 kilos of hazardous waste collected this year is consolidating the battery collection system by placing more than 2 containers are added to the existing 3 (located in Guilds and warehouses of the Church of Santa Maria).
These two new containers will be located in public for all citizens to deposit their batteries there.
For the time is due to placement of a container next to the memorial procession in Murcia doors, and the other near the new administrative headquarters in San Miguel street, deciding after fixed places for them.
The campaign will start on Friday of Dolores, a public holiday in Cartagena, and will end 30 days after Easter Sunday, a total of 40 days.
NEW SYSTEMS FOR MANAGING BATTERIES
The Ministry of Agriculture and Water, through the Directorate General of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control has authorized two new Integrated Management Systems-ECOPILAS Spain and the European Recycling Platform (ERP) - to operate for five years in the Region Murcia to ensure the proper management of used batteries.
These systems are in addition to other existing and proven, as Ecoembes (for light container recycling), Ecovidrio (for glass containers), and Sigrid (for the collection of pharmaceuticals.)
For the collection of waste containers are a series of color-coded: blue for paper, green for glass, yellow, packaging, and gray, for organic matter.
In our region there are three types of containers: the beige color for clothing and shoes, the orange for used cooking oil, and now there is a new fuchsia container for collection of batteries, to be located in the urban context or in different areas, such as Ecoparks.
