The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, accompanied by the spokespersons of the municipal People's Party, PSOE and Citizen Movement, Joaquín Segado, Charity Rives and Luis Carlos Garcia Conesa, together with the Councillor for Sports, Alonso Gómez, have held this morning a meeting with President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, in order to seek their support for the candidacy of the city of Cartagena in the face of the holding of the XVIII Mediterranean Games to be held in 2017.
As explained later the municipal spokesman, Cartagena and informed the Spanish Olympic Committee of its intention to submit the bid to host in 2017 Mediterranean Games.
The Cartagena project will contribute to the city projected internationally, both from the standpoint of tourism and sporting and cultural, not just the city but the entire region, and born with a desire for integration by involving a all municipalities in the region, from Mazarron to San Pedro del Pinatar as subsites of the Games, have been identified.
Mediterranean Games include 25 sports in the competition, one of the hallmarks of the sports project the Sports Palace in construction.
