Adrián Vallés supports UPCT Racing Team (24/03/2009)

The UPCT Racing Team (UPCT Motorsports) will be assisted by Adrian Valles, professional pilot and also GP2 Formula 1 test driver, in the process of fine tuning of the prototype car that developed for the Formula Student competition to be held at the Silverstone circuit (UK).

Thus, the UPCT Racing Team will be advised by a specialist in the purification of technical features such as stability, recovery at the exit of corners, braking, acceleration and maneuverability of the prototype developed by the students of the University ETSII Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT).

Since the beginning of this academic year 2008-2009, the School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) UPCT has a team of dedicated engineering students to design, manufacture and development of a prototype car that will represent the University Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) in the international Formula Student competition held annually at Silverstone (UK), bringing together the most prestigious universities in the field of engineering.

The driver Adrian Valles has become involved in Formula 1 during the year 2007 as test driver for the Spyker F1 Team, and during the years 2008 and 2009 has participated in various competitions such as for example with FMSI GP2 Asia Series, GP2 Series with BCN Competition, Le Mans Series and 24 Epsilon Euskadi Le Mans and with Liverpool FC Superleague Formula.

In parallel with the development of his work as a professional driver in GP2 and other categories of motorsport, has formed the AV Racers team, with the intended pilot training class.

The driver Adrian Valles collaboration will help to UPCT Racing Team to get debug kinematic and dynamic response of the prototype developed during the tests to be performed on the track prior to racing on the Silverstone circuit with this prototype .

The professional experience of this pilot will be made this way to serve the needs of the prototype with the UPCT participate in the Formula Student competition for the development of technical specifications of the car.

Besides the support of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and the School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII) of this university, to enable the development of this prototype UPCT Racing Team (or Team UPCT Motorsports) has the support of some private companies, professional associations and other entities such as the group Renaut, Cartagena Race Track, College of Industrial Engineers in the Region of Murcia, Automobile Federation of the Region of Murcia, Turbo Kit, Association of Industrial Engineers Murcia, Comunidad Autónoma de Murcia and La Caixa Obra Social.

However, the team is open to possible collaboration with other entities that may be interested in contributing to support the development of this prototype car.

The Racing Team training UPCT arises from the experience of some teachers of the Department of Process Engineering Manufacturing UPCT within the Department of Materials and Manufacturing Engineering of this university, which spent several years working on projects educational innovation and have recently focused their efforts on the incorporation of such initiatives in order to make possible the improvement of the quality of education offered to students enrolled in ETSII of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT .)

According to the coordinator of UPCT Racing Team, Professor Patrick Franco Chum, only through these initiatives students have the opportunity to develop transferable skills to which must be oriented education onwards, according to the guidelines of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA)-or the well-known within the university as the Bologna process.

Thus, they may develop skills such as teamwork, sacrifice, ability to solve real engineering problems, creativity, ability to communicate with experts in other fields, leadership, autonomous learning, ability to defend their technical solutions, etc. ., which will be of particular relevance to the performance of the activities of its profile as engineers.
