Councillor for Education, Josefa Maroto, has shown support of the City of Cartagena to the Ministry of Education to his decision to close public school progressive Antonio Arévalo, an issue that has arisen in the heart of the corporation to a motion filed by the socialist municipal group whose urgency has been rejected.
Joseph Marotta has clarified that although the property is owned by the Ministry of Education, the City has undertaken since it became operational for maintenance, cleaning, construction and repair, has always supported the school, but the fact is that places demands on the population living in the area is declining, so today has been reduced to just 42 students.
The councilor has said that given the circumstances and the high cost of maintaining the center, with twelve teachers and offering all kinds of educational programs for these few students, the decision of the Ministry to close the school is successful, it acts consistently, and these Students may well be relocated to other schools in the area.
The plot of Antonio Arévalo, a total of 12,224 meters square, 256 meters will be separated in the Department of Social Services plans to build a Senior Club in the neighborhood of San Ginés.
The remaining land is devoted to a Secondary School and Regional Center for Adult Education.
