Prominent archeologists and architects from several countries, specializing in the study of Roman theaters, praised the speech made at the Teatro de Cartagena.
His position has been demonstrated in the International Symposium which was held these days in Cartagena, organized by the German Archaeological Institute and the Foundation Teatro Romano de Cartagena, and has been exhaustively analyzed, and very up to date, the problem posed by the recovery of the scene with all its architectural and sculptural decoration, the most sensitive part of the Roman theater buildings, and sometimes there are few traces.
In Cartagena, fortunately, the data obtained from the excavation of the past years by the team led by Professor Sebastian Ramallo Asensio, have allowed to explain in detail the characteristics of this part of the building, both in antiquity and today , is the more striking given the monumental.
Architects and archaeologists involved or intervened in theater buildings in France, Italy, Asia Minor and in many places with similar characteristics monuments have been able to compare their experiences in this conference.
One of the conclusions reached is the perfect balance of showing the Theatre of Cartagena on the work of archaeologists, the team of architects Rafael Moneo and government gathered in the Roman Theatre Foundation.
The end result of a well coordinated project, is a measured and careful restoration, which allows the reading of the building in all its historical phases.
The inevitable removal of some tiers, has not prevented from leaving visible in other parts of the reforms after construction of the building Augustan theater.
Thus becomes the Theatre of Cartagena and interventions that have been made, both from the standpoint of archaeological and restoration, in a model that has received all sorts of praise in the scientific discussions of this conference.
A test of the wisdom that has been this project which has lasted almost two decades, is also the public acclaim that a very heterogeneous and many sources are giving to all that today form the Museum and the Theatre in the city of Cartagena.
The general feeling of those who have responsibility for the study and management of theater buildings in other countries is that in Cartagena has found the perfect balance between what is a cultural project and open a research center with international repercussion.
