Mayor Pilar Barreiro received this morning the new district secretary of the CCOO union, Juan Pedro Martinez-Garcia, who was elected just a month ago and has used this formal visit to the mayor to explain the labor and industrial situation in the region of Cartagena.
As he explained the new secretary, the number of unemployed in the region of Cartagena has now reached 13,144 people, 40% more than the registered unemployment rate in 2005-2007.
However, Martinez, while recognizing that the situation is very worrying both nationally and locally, in this city there are large companies that can generate direct and indirect jobs, such as Sabic, Repsol or Navantia.
In the latter case, for example, said that currently the indirect workforce is 500 people, and the expected workload could reach thousand employees.
The new secretary of CCOO county expects the mayor, in his capacity as MP and member of the Defense Committee of Congress, could give impetus to this situation.
