The socialist regional deputy, Antonio Martínez Bernal, has filed a motion in the Assembly which calls for the encouragement and support to the candidacy of Cartagena to host the XVIII edition of the Mediterranean Games.
Bernal Martinez recalled that in October 2008, the City Council unanimously approved Cartagena, initiate proceedings for the filing of the official nomination of the city of Cartagena to the organization of the XVIII edition of the Mediterranean Games.
The socialist parliamentarian said that the Autonomous Community can not remain aloof from such an important decision not only to Cartagena, but for the entire district and the region.
In this regard, stated that they do not understand the statements of the general director of Sports doubting the ability of Cartagena and the region to organize these games.
"With his attitude puts into question the contributions from the business sector in Cartagena and its region could be made on an occasion like this."
The Organization of these games "is a unique opportunity for sport in our region and also imply that Cartagena, its Region and the Autonomous Community are known throughout the Mediterranean area and beyond its sphere of influence."
