The Department of Public Highways, through the Parks and Gardens Service is conducting a campaign to combat the proliferation of bags of caterpillars in the pine trees located in the city's green areas, as reported by the council, Enrique Pérez Abellán.
The work focuses on cutting and burning procesionaria bags hanging from the branches and the application of plant protection products authorized.
Enrique Pérez Abellán noted that already in October took place the usual preventive treatment, but the fall and winter we've had has been more humid than the magnitude of the plague this year is spectacular, not only in Cartagena but throughout the region.
Processionary pine is the main pest of the Mediterranean pine forests and is named after the caterpillars move in alignment group, as a procession.
Its harmful effects affect trees, defoliating agents, and people and animals, in which their cause stinging hairs allergies.
