The Governing Board of the Cartagena tourist consortium, Puerto de Culturas, met this afternoon at the Palace Hall to take stock of 2008 and approving investments that are going to undertake in 2009.
The meeting was chaired by the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, and it was attended by representatives of the City of Cartagena, the regional government and business associations.
Among the most prominent of 2008, is increased by 34 percent in the number of visitors to the different interpretation centers and came to 276,577.
An important part of this increase was due to the opening of the Teatro Romano, whose visits manages Puerto de Culturas.
Revenues from ticket sales totaled 706,000 euros, which allowed the consortium to finance itself by 64 percent.
The rest, to complete the regular budget 1,105,000 euros has been paid by the municipality and the region.
1.7 mln OF INVESTMENTS FOR 2009
The Board also approved the investment budget for 2009, amounting to 1,778,000 euros and that will be used mostly to continue excavations at the windlass and the protection of archaeological remains found in this area.
The incorporation of the windlass to the tourist routes Cartagena Port of Cultures, is one of the priorities of the consortium that is working for several years with input from the region.
The area of operation stretches from the Roman Baths Honda street, to the new Health Centre in the Old Town, on the street Adarve.
So far we have excavated over 3,000 square feet to great effect.
