The Minister of Presidency and Public Administration, María Pedro Reverte, argued today before the 250 local police officers in the Murcia region participating in the seminar on 'Policing in gender violence, "for his" special involvement and understanding for battered women, as most of the time are the first to attend one of these calls. "
Reverte opened today, accompanied by the mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, the event, taking place today and tomorrow in the Security Park Local Police Cartagena, and which also involved the general director of Local Government, Javier Iniesta.
The conference, organized by the local police school in the Region of Murcia in collaboration with the Institute for Women and the City of Cartagena, are intended for local police forces in the region and open to members of the Forces State Security.
In them, will address gender-based violence from a general perspective, but also and mainly police, focusing on the existing legal rules about the judicial treatment of such patterns of violence and police intervention in situations of this nature.
In this regard, Reverte appealed to the "more humane work of the agents," to concentrate "all their efforts in caring for those women who made a desperate call hoping to find someone to understand and address such a serious situation."
Police training
Last year 2008, a total of 1,953 students from different local police forces in the region participated in 50 training courses convened by the Directorate General of Local Government.
The Presidential and Public Administration is developing the project for future local police academy in the region of Murcia, referred to in the Regional Public Safety Plan, which allows the integral formation of the more than 3,000 local police officers belonging to the various municipalities in the region.
The Academy facilities will be built in the village of Murcia Sangonera La Verde, on a plot of 37,000 square meters.
