Inauguration of painting exhibition at the South Pole Palace Hall (14/02/2009)

The Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, together with the Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero, last night the exhibition inlauguró South Pole, more ice please painter Francisco Solana from Cartagena, stand in the Exhibition Hall of the Town Hall until the next 19 April.

'South Pole' is a journey in pictures Solana's trip to the South Pole on a sailboat and looking for the purest light of the planet, found in Antarctica.

As explained by the painter, the light at the South Pole falls to about 70 degrees and very gray, but white luminescence generated a series of very difficult to capture on canvas.

To do so, had to take over 6,000 photographs of a landscape that he describes as very tough but very beautiful painting.

As a result, the exhibition includes 27 paintings realistic different format, using pigments and oil on linen and cotton.

Solana Francisco is the first Spanish painter who has traveled to the South Pole.

Ten years ago, crossed the Atlantic on a ship of the fifteenth century and another of his "adventures took him by plane, by the Beagle Channel, where he conducted over 200 aerial photographs.

The artist shared his journey to the South Pole in 21 days with ten crew members of different nationalities.

I wanted to reflect the entire trip, since it leaves Usuhaia until it reaches 65 degrees fifteen minutes south, a point from which we can no longer navigate it, said Solana.

His next project is also closer to the ice, this time the North Pole.
