On Saturday, February 14, Carnival starts in Cartagena 2009, which this year comes full of imagination and desire to take to the streets and out for a few days, the black shadow of the economic crisis.

The first events will take place after 17 hours, with the election of the Queen Children's and Ladies, in the central pavilion of Sports.
At night, after 22 hours, the mayor will attend the proclamation Pilar Barreiro Carnival, by Rossini van Wijk, international designer of carnival costumes.
Subsequently, there will be the proclamation of the Queen of Carnival and the performance of jokes and groups of choreography, the show also will offer Chipper, former American Idol contestant.
From then until February 24, the city is filled with joy and fun in the Carnival celebrations that come with major developments such as the change of itinerary for the works at Gates of Murcia, increasing choreographed troupes and groups to a total of 60, an exhibition of costumes of Carnival, cultural center Ramón Alonso Luzzy since 16 February, and a photo contest of Carnival, in collaboration with the UPCT.
As for the itinerary of the Grand Parade, the works of Murcia doors require slightly modify the route of the grand parade, which will involve around 4,000 people and fifty extras and choreographic groups.
Thus, the procession will start from the street Gisbert, Duke Street, Serreta Street, Plaza López Pinto, Park Street, Santa Florentina street, calle Carmen, Carlos III, Calle Ronda, Calle San Juan, Bruna Angel Street and Paseo Alfonso XIII, to finish in Hall Jiménez de la Espada.
The characters of Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma will be represented this year by José Antonio Hernández and Ana Gambín, both from Ipanema carnival.
The first one has been twenty years linked to Carnival Cartagena, having designed the costumes of the last two Queens.
The second, born in Cartagena, spent his childhood in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and returned to the city is involved in the celebration of these festivals.
