Promoting the integration of youth in their neighborhoods, especially areas with difficult socio-economic municipality is the main objective of the project The Box of Time, which this year celebrates its sixth edition and is the result of collaboration between the Department of Youth and Social care of the City of Cartagena.
Precisely those responsible for both areas, Javier Herrero and Antonio Calderon, presented the new edition of Time Box to be held between February and June, led to 120 young people between 16 and 25, among which are distributed 6,000 hours of community service to help improve the living environment and integrate into it.
In this sense, the councilman of Social Care, Antonio Calderon, has emphasized the inclusive nature of this project is to foster a sense of responsibility and recognition of the youth with their community and surroundings.
The basic operation of 'The Box of Time' is maintained as in previous years, so that for every hour devoted to community work, the young get a loan, and each credit is equivalent to seven euros.
These can be redeemed for goods and services of interest (articles of clothing, music, books, mobile phones, bus passes, activities of T-LA, etc..) In a network of partners, consisting of stores belonging to its own neighborhoods, or small establishments in the city center.
Already become a stable program of the City Council that it intended to 110,000 euros, the project will continue to develop in areas of Los Mateos, Lo Campano and Santa Lucia, the Virgin of Charity neighborhood, the Historical Center, San Antón and José neighborhood Mary Lapuerta.
This territorial act was made possible by the participation of six social organizations, which are the Youth Association A Step Further, Rascasa Association, the Association of Residents of the neighborhood Virgen de la Caridad, San Antón Red Cross, the Young Group and Lapuerta Promoting Social Initiative.
The activities of the young participants will be selected by these organizations, which include from the array of infrastructure and public spaces in visible and representative of the area, direct assistance to neighbors and neighborhood associations, research on some aspect social reality of it, or participation in some cultural events taking place in the municipality, as the Partnerships Fair Youth X or I Cartagena Intercultural Week.
In addition, the councilman of Youth, Javier Herrero, stressed that, in a complementary manner, we will continue with the connection between 'The Time Box' and comprehensive advice service to young 'Youth Space', organized several visits by the participants to this municipal service and encouraging participating in a program of individualized tutoring.
To publicize in each neighborhood's new in the 2009, have organized various leisure activities, which aim to gather a significant number of neighbors, especially targeting youth.
The next activities will take place on Friday 13 February in the Mansion of the Chronicler Plaza Virgen de la Caridad neighborhood, and Saturday 14 at the Plaza of the Dressmakers in Los Mateos, from 17:30.
Finally, we must highlight the various surveys that 'The Box of Time' has received over recent years, becoming the first Spanish project Youth Prize of the European Union in 2005.
A year later he was also awarded the Youth Prize of the Region of Murcia, in the category of participation.
It also has been invited to present their experience in specialized forums, such as International Youth Meetings of Gijon in 2006, the Second Biennial Leisure Vitoria-Gasteiz in 2008, as well as courses at the University of the Sea this year past.
